ROCKHAMPTON Regional Council has cancelled the 2020 Homeless Connect event due next month because of Covid-19.

A council spokesman said residents should not leave donations of any sort at the city's showgrounds.
But people experiencing or are at risk of homelessness should call the Queensland Homeless Hotline on 1800 474 753, the spokesman added. The Hotline can provide information and referral services including where to find support, accommodation, meals and showers.
The latest incarnation of the RRC has met for the first time since the declaration of the polls for the 2020 Local Government elections. The meeting, led by Mayor Margaret Strelow, included newly elected councillors Shane Latcham and Donna Kirkland.
Portfolio responsibilities were confirmed at the meeting with Cr Strelow holding sway over Advance Rockhampton - Economic Development and Events.
Cr Tony Williams will be responsible for Tourism and infrastructure, Cr Drew Wickerson has Communities while Planning and Regulation will be handled by Cr Ellen Smith, who will also be responsible for Local Laws formation, review and compliance, animal management, parking and public health legislation, policy and compliance.
Cr Cherie Rutherford will oversee Sports, Parks and Public Spaces, including the aquatic centres, swimming pools and the zoo.
Water and Supporting a Better Environment will be under Cr Kirkland's purview as will the annual review of Fitzroy River Water performance plan. She will also provide leadership in the community around preparation for Climate Change and its impacts.
Airport Growth and Development will be under Cr Neil Fisher's management and Cr Latcham will have oversight of Waste and Waste to Resource Implementation.
