An abandoned school science project triggered a large police operation at Indooroopilly station on Monday night, causing major delays on five train lines. Police declared an emergency situation about 5.30pm after receiving reports of a “suspicious” green and white device on the platform. It caused disruptions to the Ipswich, Springfield, Ferny Grove, Cabooluture and Ferny Grove lines. Police blocked off several streets in the area and advised motorists and pedestrians to stay clear. The bomb squad was also called in. However at 8.47pm the emergency situation was revoked. A police spokeswoman said it appeared a school science project had accidently been left on the platform and had not been claimed. She said police investigations would continue on Tuesday.
