As the clock ticks down to polling day, local government candidates are firing up their efforts to get over the line on March 28.
While some mayoral candidates have been elected unopposed, others are facing strong competition.
Banana Shire Council Mayor Neville Ferrier doesn't have to wait until polling day to know his fate, being the only one to nominate in his shire.
Elected to council in 2004, he has been mayor since 2016 and will now hold that position until 2024.
The Banana Shire also sees eight candidates running for a seat on council across six divisions, including three sitting councillors - Cr Colin Semple, Cr Brooke Leo, and Cr Terri Boyce.
Balonne Shire Mayor Richard Marsh has nominated for a second term at the helm of the south west region, after almost 18 years serving the shire as a councillor.
Cr Marsh faces competition from Cr Samantha O'Toole who was elected to council in March 2016.
Eleven candidates have thrown their hats in the ring for a seat on council, including three current councillors.
In the Maranoa Region, Mayor Tyson Golder is running for a second term.
Cr Golder comes up against Robert Loughnan who he displaced as mayor in the 2016 election.
At the time, Mr Loughnan had served local government for 18 years, including as mayor of the former Bungil Shire Council for eight years before being elected as the first mayor of Maranoa Regional Council.
The two experienced mayors have competition from a third party in the form of Cr David Schefe who is currently the portfolio chair for utilities, geothermal energy and local business.
Eighteen candidates have nominated for seats on council, including 16 new faces.
