PETER Donovan and Marianne Elliot’s Clermont farming property Curraweena has sold at an Emerald Land and Cattle Company auction for $6.1 million, setting a new Clermont district record.

The 2699 hectare (6669 acre) property was bought by Bradley and Sarah Mifsud from Undara, Clermont. The sale price is equal to about $2260/ha ($915/acre).
The auction attracted seven registered bidders and a crowd of more than 70 people. The property received 15 inspections prior to the auction.
Curraweena is described being 95 per cent cultivation with as an excellent mix of soft black/chocolate basalt soils.
The well developed property has two homesteads, a large machinery shed, workshops, airstrip, and four bores.
Will McLay, Herron Todd White, Rockhampton, said the sale price was confirmation of the current strength of the rural property market.
“There is a high level of demand and a low level of supply,” Mr McLay said.
“Values for farming have historically been very stable relative to cattle country on the Central Highlands but strong returns from pulse crops have fueled the market.”
The marketing of Curraweena was handled by Brock Palmer from Emerald Land and Cattle Company.
