MISS Rodeo Australia entrants will be vying for trips to the National Finals of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (USA) and Canadian Professional Rodeo Association when they compete for this year’s title this weekend in Warwick.

The entrants are Sophie Amos (Warwick, Qld), Kate Taylor (Cloncurry, Qld), Isabelle Hare (Deniliquin, NSW), Emma Deicke (Bowen River, Qld) and Tamara Evans (Millmerran, Qld).
The 2017 Miss Rodeo Australia will be crowned on Saturday night (January 28) at the Australian Rodeo Heritage Centre in Warwick.
As this year is the 40th anniversary of the start of the Miss Rodeo Australia quest, all past winners have been invited.
The inaugural winner Sharon McTaggart will travel from interstate for the weekend. Past winners Terri Barrett, Jenny Shean, Ali Smith and Kylie McIntyre will also be in Warwick for the presentation and crowning of this year’s winner.
Australian Professional Rodeo Association office manager Karen Burraston said 2016 Miss Rodeo Australia Katy Scott from Cloncurry had travelled extensively to rodeos across Australia and travelled twice to North America.
“All our Miss Rodeo Australia winners down the years have been keen to travel the country and promote the sport but the number of rodeos they attend is determined by their work commitments,” Burraston said.
“Miss Rodeo Australia will be heavily involved in our National Finals at the Warwick Rodeo in late October. Last year, rodeo queens from Canada and United States were at the APRA National Finals in Warwick and we are hoping the new queens from overseas will be able to make the trip to Warwick this year.”
There will be $20,000 worth of travel and prizes for the winner. The travel includes fully sponsored trips to Rodeo Finals in the United States and Canada.
While the presentation dinner on Saturday night is a sell-out, there are still tickets available for the Canapes and Cowgirls Night at the Australian Rodeo Heritage Centre in Warwick from 6pm Friday, the first part of judging. Horsemanship judging is on Saturday at 9.30-10am at the Warwick Showgrounds and an action packed weekend will finish with a celebratory brunch for the entrants at Gordon Country at Goomburra on Sunday morning. Guests are also welcome to attend the brunch with the entrants and newly crowned Miss Rodeo Australia.

Rodeo action in three states
THERE will be five Australian Professional Rodeo Association rodeos in three states in the next week.
The first rodeo for the week is at Harveydale in Tasmania on Australia Day.
The APRA has four rodeos in three states on Saturday, Wilmington in South Australia, the Ulverstone Twilight Rodeo in Tasmania and two rodeos in Victoria, the Heartland Raceway Rodeo and Neerim and District Rodeo.
All five rodeos are for Championship Points in the APRA as competitors aim to build up points and qualify in the top-15 for The Warwick Rodeo National Finals in October.
