There was spirited bidding in the stands at the Central Queensland Livestock Exchange on Monday, as the 45th Lancefield Brahman Invitation Sale reached a top of $48,000.
The entire draft of 93 grey Brahman bulls sold under the hammer for a complete clearance and averaged $12,586. With 75 bid cards registered on the day, the sale average was an increase of more than $1800 per head from 2018, leaving vendors smiling.
The top price of the sale was reached when Matthew and Janelle McCamley, Eulogie, Dululu, sold Lancefield M Eclipse 5905/M for a cracking $48,000 to Stanbroke Pastoral, Fort Constantine, Cloncurry.
Eclipse is a 25-month-old son of Lancefield M Eguchi and from Lancefield M Connie, with figures to back up the top dollars paid on the day.
The milk-tooth bull boasted a scrotal circumference of 41 centimetres, tipped the scales at 850 kilograms and recorded an eye muscle area of 139 square centimetres.
Stanbroke Pastoral put together a good line-up of bulls on the day, taking home five bulls to average an impressive $30,000. Their draft included Palmal Marvel 8525, son of NCC Marzipan and grandson of JDH Mr Elmo Manso, who sold for $36,000, along with $30,000 Elrose Able 16705, a son of Cambil Appollo Manso 4687 offered by vendors Rodger and Lorena Jefferis, Elrose Stud, Cloncurry.
Reaching into the pocket for the second top price was Alastair and Pam Davison, Viva Brahman Stud, Lumeah, Middlemount, who paid $44,000 for Palmal Dynamo 8327.
Offered by vendors David and Julie McCamley, Palmal Stud, Dingo, the 25-month-old son of NCC Lord Delaware entered the ring at 872kg with figures showing intramuscular fat of 5.2pc, and P8 and rib fat depths of 12mm and 12mm respectively.
Keen interest continued with bids flying from the stands for the third top price bull offered by Scott and Lizette McCamley, Lancefield, Dululu. Lancefield S Glenroy 5646/1 (S) sold to R&G Robke and Son, Greenfield, Mirani, for $42,000.
Other highlights from the sale included the 23-month-old bull 2AM Cadman 6559, who was sold for $37,500 by Andrew and Anna McCamley, 2AM Stud, Dingo.
Cadman was bought by Shane and Sandra Bishop, Garglen Brahmans, Moura. The 2AM stud also impressed with 2AM Endeavour who sold for $34,000 to R&U Oates, Comet.
Repeat buyers the Everingham family, Oak Park Station, Charters Towers, showed strong support, buying eight bulls to average $8562.
Buying in bulk on the day was APN P/L, Hayfield Station, Katherine, Northern Territory, who bought 12 bulls to average $7625. Cattle JV P/L, Normanton, also took home eight head to average $5750.
Selling agent Brad Passfield, Hourn and Bishop, Moura, said it was a really strong sale throughout.
"Stud producers and strong commercial producers showed up to cover a great area from the Top End of the Northern Territory, through to the Gulf and to central and northern Queensland areas," Mr Passfield said.
"It was really satisfying to see repeat buyers coming back and securing their lots and they are happy to pay a premium for the bulls that are obviously doing their job."
