The 43rd annual Rockhampton Brangus Sale has maintained momentum with "impressive" results posted at the Central Queensland Livestock Exchange this week.
The sale of females on October 14 proved successful and was the ideal precursor to the bull sale the following day.
With auctioneers Elders, Savage Barker and Backhouse and Ray White Livestock holding sway on October 15, 115 bulls were sold under the hammer at the multi-vendor sale, averaging $10,030 for a 94 percent clearance.
Total gross receipts were $1,498,943.
The best price of the day was $50,000, paid out on two occasions for bulls, firstly for one presented by Bruce and Leanne Woodard, Tualka South, Taroom, and, secondly, for an article off the draft of the Pearce Family,Telpara Hills, Upper Barron via Atherton.
Bonox 1138 (P), a 36-month-old son of Bonox 563 (P) and a Brangus cow (P), was bought from the Woodards by Lindsay and Fiona Barlow, Triple B Brangus, Dingo.
Listed in the sale catalogue as Lot 88, Bonox 1138 took the selling session to a new level. Before his arrival in the sale ring, the previous best taken for a bull at the opening session was $14,000 and three others were sold for prices ranging between $10,000-$14,000.
The bidding was frenetic for the 934kg bull, which also featured a scrotal circumference of 40cm, semen motility of 70pc, P8 and rib fat measurements of 11mm and 7mm and an eye muscle area of 146sq cm.
Mr Barlow said Triple B was "excited" to acquire Bonox 1138 and optimistic about his potential impact on their herd.
Inkerman Grazing, Inkerman station, Fredericksfield, signed for the $50,000 Telpara Hills bull, a son of Suhn's Foundation 331Z28 (P) and Telpara Hills Miss Yeppoon 541J (P).
Catalogued at Lot 186, Telpara Hills Grange 541N34 (P) (AI) possesses an EMA of 145sq cm and tipped the scales at 954kg.
First-time vendors Joseph and Helen Oram, Double Creek Brangus, Wooderson, averaged $7500 for the pair of bulls they offered. Lot 234, the 830kg Double Creek Alric 1129M (P) was sold to SO and LM Bates, Lisco Farming, who also claimed the other Double Creek offering.
Double Creek Baraccus 541MI (P) (ET) weighed in at 814kg and has a scrotal circumference of 40cm with semen motility of 70pc, morphology of 93pc and an EMA of 117sq cm.
Jim Maguire, Bingegang, near Dingo, paid $11,000 for Sheldara Memphis M31 (P), a son of Sheldara Hercules H01 (P) and Sheldara Hannah H10 (P) from another debut vendor Shona Maguire and David Gibson, Sheldara Brangus, NSW.
Brookston Pastoral Company, Mackay, was among the busiest of buyers, snapping up 13 lots, averaging $10,692 after spending to a high of $28,000 for a product of Telpara Hills.
Nev and Megan Hansen, Oaklands, Kalapa, averaged $12,100 for the 10 lots they sold, including one for $16,500 to Brookston Pastoral.
The 1060kg Oaklands Denver (P), which is headed to Mackay with other Brookston acquisitions, has an EMA of 141sq cm, semen motility of 70pc, scrotal circumference of 43cm, rib fat of 8mm, P8 of 12mm, IMF% of 6.3 and is a son of the Singletary Of Brinks (P) dam Oaklands 103H (P) (AI).
The president of the Australian Brangus Cattle Association, Mark Beckman, said the results of the sale were impressive.
