The small town of Thallon drew a crowd of 125 guests on the last weekend of September when it held its inaugural Grazing at the Watering Hole event.
Set in the campground with the towns towering grain silos and their spectacular large-scale mural The Watering Hole by Queensland artists Drapl & The Zookeeper as a magnificent backdrop, the town hosted a special long-table dining experience aimed at supporting and celebrating local produce and producers, with guests invited to sit at "Australias longest grazing table".
Thallon Progress Association Inc. secretary, Leanne Brosnan said the event was an incredible success with live art by acclaimed artist Drapl, who painted the silos, and fabulous music by St George band, When Sonny Getz Blue.
The night was about making the most of our beautiful silos mural we have in Thallon and showing people another side of that by lighting it up at night, she said.
It was also about showcasing southern Queensland produce and raising money for drought relief.
Thank you to River Sands Wines, and all our sponsors Balonne Shire Council, Campbells fuels Goondiwindi, RFDS, Human Bean Co, The Department of Employment, Small Business and Training and Aus Brokers Dalby, she said.
Ms Brosnan said all profits from the evening were headed for the St George Drought Committee and that the organising committee were aiming to make it an annual event for Thallon.
Wed certainly like to get more local producers involved and we would like to make it an annual event, but I think well probably keep it around that 120 to 125 mark because it had a lovely intimacy about it, she said.
We had half locals and half people from away and they came from as far as Melbourne, Mackay and Brisbane.
It was like a big family gathering even though not everyone knew each other, but it had a really nice feeling about it.
