Western Queensland floods claim life of man

A man has been found dead after being swept off the Lloyd Jones Weir last night.

A man has been found dead after being swept off the Lloyd Jones Weir last night.

Police confirmed that at about 6:20pm yesterday (Thursday), a woman reported a man had been swept off the weir, just outside Barcaldine.

A search of the area located the man deceased about 200m downstream.

A Queensland Police spokesman said the man's death was not considered suspicious and a report will be prepared for the coroner.

The area has recently been inundated with flooding and there are multiple current flooding warnings.

The following watches and/or warnings are current at 6.25am Friday (April 29):

  • Major Flood Warning for the Barcoo River, Moderate Flood Warning for the Thomson River and Minor Flood Warning for the Cooper Creek
  • Moderate Flood Warning for the Bokhara River
  • Final Flood Warning for the Bohle River
  • Final Flood Warning for the Haughton River Catchment
  • Final Flood Warning for the Russell River
  • Final Flood Warning for the Tully and Murray Rivers
  • Final Flood Warning for the Western River and Flood Warning for the Diamantina River
  • Initial Minor Flood Warning for the Georgina River
