Australia's peanut capital Kingaroy has finally got its own 'big' attraction, unveiling the Big Peanut on Thursday.
While most of the town was asleep, a team of philanthropic businesses, council and the Kingaroy Needs a Big Peanut committee met in Lions Park near the heart of town to install the long-awaited structure.
The 3.4m tall and 1.2m wide steel sculpture was built by Grafton, NSW, scrap metal artist Kane Minogue out of farming equipment gathered from peanut farms across the South Burnett.
The 450kg peanut was then trucked to the town and lifted by crane onto its plinth in the park, which sits across the road from the famous The Peanut Van.
The concept has been over 50 years in the making, with different variations of peanut monuments introduced but never sticking around.

For years the Big Peanut has been spoken about - from XXXX bottle cap trivia to tourism pamphlets and TV shows like Bluey - but it never existed until this week.
Kingaroy Needs a Big Peanut member Abbigail Andersson said it was a long time coming.
"We've had a peanut festivals, and we've had peanut mascots but the giant peanut idea never went away," Ms Andersson said.
"I met a few sculptors and then when we met Kano he said, 'Yeah, lets do it'."
Council and businesses also pitched in funds and time to get the project off the ground.
The Big Peanut will be illumined at night by two specially designed lighting poles.
Official unveiling plans will be announced soon.
