Fifty-nine whiteface bulls sold to $30,000 for a healthy average of $15,797, an increase of $4000 on last year, at Steve and Deb Reid's on-property Talbalba Hereford sale at Delemere, Millmerran, on Thursday.
Sale topper was Talbalba Conrad Q086, a 1054 kilogram, 23-month-old, which jointly sold to Daryl Bjorksten, Beralga, St George, and his brother Ian Bjorksten, Wadong, Yeoval, NSW.
Stud principal Steve Reid said he was thankful for the support from bidders and buyers.
"The sale support has been remarkable," Mr Reid said.
"Debbie and I have been hearing some of the other wonderful averages but you never think you'll be a part of it."
Daryl Bjorksten said he felt lucky picking up Q086, given the healthy averages of the day.
"The average was $15,700, so I thought I might be a bit lucky to get him at $30,000. I thought he might've gone a bit higher," Mr Bjorksten said.
"We were looking for a really top sire. He's got a lot of volume and very high growth for age - all his figures were very good. His conformation is correct and he has good, thick muscle."
Mr Bjorksten currently has 600 breeders at St George, usually buying one or two outside sires a year, with the rest coming from their own breeding program.
Next at $28,000 was Talbalba Guardian Q125 purchased by Nowley Pastoral Company, Burren Junction, NSW.
Volume buyers were longstanding repeat clients Bevan and Tony Hoff, Colart, Blackall, who finished with five bulls for an average of $15,000.
Also active was Ian Winks, Woolerina Grazing, Bollon, who paid an average of $16,000 for two bulls.
Herefords Australia CEO Lisa Sharp attended the sale and said she was impressed by the bull quality and prices achieved.
"This was another example of a really strong Hereford sale," Ms Sharp said.
"There's been so much momentum in Herefords since I became CEO only six months ago.
"Nearly every sale in the last two to three weeks have been 100 per cent clearance and average sale records have been broken."
Ms Sharp said it was good to see old and new buyers getting out to the sale.
"I've been trying to catch up with as many buyers as possible after a sale to ask what are the main benefits of Herefords they look for."
The clearance rate was 100pc.
