A Limousin bull has been awarded the grand champion in this year’s Farmfest Battle of the Bulls stud cattle competition on Thursday.
The top honour was given to Darren Hartwig’s 19-month-old Gold Crest Milkshake bull who was also awarded grand champion Limousin bull at Beef Australia 2018.
It’s been a dream run for the Hartwig family’s entry into the Limousin stud stock industry with Gold Crest Milkshake the second bull the stud has bred since starting several years ago.
“Our Milkshake bull also went on to win the Champion of Champions title during the Gympie Show’s stud cattle competition the week after Beef 2018,” Mr Hartwig said.
The long-body sire was by a Graneta Limousin bull, Bell and out of a Greenslopes Limousin cow.
“This bull is the type we are aiming to breed in our Limousin stud and it’s great to achieve this level of success so early in our breeding program,” Mr Hartwig said.
“The bull is very structurally correct with plenty of power while still maintaining his softness with even fat cover.”
Gold Crest Milkshake will now go on to compete at Queensland Royal Show in August.
