The removal of security screening and cost savings of 25 per cent for adults are two of the changes announced by the Maranoa Regional Council in the wake of news that Regional Express has been awarded the regional service contract between Brisbane and Roma and Charleville.
The council this week congratulated Rex for successfully securing the central 1 air route service between Roma and Brisbane, and said that because the airline would be operating smaller aircrafts on the route, security screening would no longer be required in the Roma terminal.
At a special meeting on December 1, the council resolved that 100 per cent of the cost savings made from this would be passed directly onto Rex, reducing overall fees by 25pc for adults and 50pc for children.
Deputy Mayor Geoff McMullen said the flights were important to the community, to visit loved ones, travel for medical appointments and for business travel.
"Access to affordable flights to and from Roma is critical to the overall liveability of our region," Cr McMullen said.
"We are grateful to Minister Mark Bailey and the Department of Transport and Main Roads for supporting the Roma to Brisbane flight route.
"We look forward to working with the Queensland government and Rex on this valued air service connecting the people of the Maranoa region."
