A Capricorn Coast parliamentarian has thrown her hat into the ring to be on the board of Beef Australia for its 2024 expo, despite concerns it would be a 'conflict of interest'.
The Queensland government is one of Beef Australia's largest stakeholders, contributing $1 million to this year's Beef 2021 event in Rockhampton.
Member for Keppel and assistant Minister for Education, Brittany Lauga, has been a member of Beef Australia for several years and has nominated for a director position on the Beef Australia board.

Ms Lauga said if successful, she would have to declare the directorship to the Premier within one month of taking office.
"I have witnessed the event grow, expand and diversify over the years. I have been a member of Beef Australia for a number of years now and am keen to support the organisation at a more strategic level as a director," Ms Lauga said.
"I have a close working relationship with Central Queensland graziers, Beef Australia members, all levels of government and I know the Central Queensland community intimately through my work as a local member of parliament over the past seven years.
"I'm also keen to add my knowledge and experience as assistant Minister for Education to help grow the education opportunities for school students across Central Queensland."
As the Beef Australia expo is held outside her Keppel electorate, Ms Lauga said she would have to update her Register of Members Interests as required by the Ministerial Code of Conduct.
"I do not have any role whatsoever with respect of the decision-making or allocation of funds regarding Beef Australia," she said.
A spokesperson for Beef Australia said the nominee and voting process for the board was open to and shared with financial members of the organisation.
"Successful director nominees for Beef 2024 will be released publicly after our AGM [on] January 14, 2022," the spokesperson said.
