My words of advice this week: take a moment, and be thankful for what we have. It is all too easy now to be drawn into the trap of focusing on what wasn't done this month, what needs to be done, what we don't have enough of or what we don't have at all.
However, what about what we do have and do? More importantly, what about all the stuff we take for granted.
Despite all the things that might annoy us politically, we live in a great country. We have such stability, freedom and choice. If you feel that COVID lockdowns negate these, I recommend you read Mandella's Long Walk to Freedom or Eddie Jaku's Happiest Man on Earth (holocaust survivor) to put some perspective around how our lockdowns really haven't been that bad (by comparison to something that people endured, not very long ago).
How's life in Australia? "Pretty bloody good!"
How good is it that you can go about your day today not worrying about being shot at.
How good is it in agriculture that we get to work in a beautiful landscape and nurture the land, work with animals all the time.
How good is it that we can go to the shops and pretty well buy anything we need and nearly anything we want. Yes, there is a difference. Life will go on even if we can't get the 'right' brand of baked beans at the shops.
How good is it that we have such optimism in agriculture. COVID has created a global shift towards society recognising the importance of natural capital and the critical role that agriculture can play.
How good is it that we have all time low interest rates.
How good is it that we can communicate with friends and family around the world in real time.
How good is that we can fly across the country and our mobile phone will work when we land (my overseas travel has made me appreciate how good we have it here).
How good is it that we can easily access fuel for our vehicles and machines.
How good is it that we have the access to health care and hospitals we do.
How good is that you are able to read this article? I'd say pretty bloody good for a number of reasons.
Enjoy your day.
