Queensland cattle numbers reduced by 22 per cent last week to total 3546 head, falling by 1053 head.
Steers 280-330kg were the largest throughput category with 891 head offered while cows and calves listed from the state were in short supply. Demand for the Queensland offering was strong, with an 82pc clearance achieved, with recent rainfall across large parts of Queensland fueling buyer demand.
Prices lifted across almost all of the indicative steer and heifer categories, with heifers under 200kg increasing by 32c to average 643c/kg, for the one line which sold. Heavy feeder heifers were one of two heifer lines to fall in value, reducing by 7c to average 436c/kg. Steers 280 to 330kg achieved a 100pc clearance for the 891 head offered, with prices ranging from 486c to 597c, averaging 548c, down 5c/kg.
A line of 41 NSM Speckle Park/Droughtmaster cross heifers from Dalby weighing 265kg, nine to 15 months sold for 651c/kg. Two lines of Angus PTIC cows from Goondiwindi offered by the same vendor returned $3260/head. These EU accredited cows were five years of age, weighed 618kg and were joined to Te Mania Angus bulls.
SHEEP
Queensland sheep listings increased 42pc last week to total 5267 head, spiked by a line of 1020 head of woolgrower wethers. NSW continues to dominate interstate purchases with 60pc of all Queensland sheep sold heading south into NSW.
Merino wethers sold from $131 to $167, to average $149/head. A line of Sep '20 drop woolgrower wether lambs from Cunnamulla weighing 50kg returned the top price and are headed south to a buyer in Victoria.
Joined Merino ewes sold from $100 to $221, to average $153/head. The top price was returned by a line of three to six-year-old ewes from Wyandra, weighing 57kg, with a 45mm skin, SIL to Poll Dorset rams and are travelling to Walgett, NSW.
Last week there was a small offering of shedding breed ewes. A line of station mated Dorper and White Dorper cross from Goondiwindi, ranging in age between 1.5 - 7 years old, weighing 53kg, station mated to Dorper rams with LAF aged one to 12 weeks returned $316/head.
