SOUTH east Queensland, Townsville, Palm Island and Magnetic Island will go into a three-day lockdown from 6pm on Tuesday, June 29 until 6pm Friday, July 2.
Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said Queensland had recorded two new cases of local transmission, one of which is of concern.
A 19-year-old clerical worker from the Prince Charles Hospital traveled from her home in Sandgate near Brisbane to Magnetic Island last week and on Sunday to the markets in Townsville.
The Premier said the state's current health directives say people who work in COVID wards need to be vaccinated, but the young woman was not.
"She was located outside the ward, so for some reason, she wasn't vaccinated," Ms Palaszczuk said.
"There will be a full investigation into that. Let's just say this virus is contagious. It is hard to contain it in hotels and it's hard to contain it in hospitals. That's the truth of the matter."
Areas visited:
- The Prince Charles Hospital
- Sandgate Woolies
- The Bay Health Gym
- A flight from Brisbane to Townsville
- Magnetic Island
- The Townsville Sunday markets
- A flight from Townsville back to Brisbane
The Premier said the woman came forward for testing on her own.
Queensland's chief health officer Dr Jeannette Young said the young woman developed symptoms on Monday, June 21 but has been infectious in the community for 10 days since Saturday June 19.
Local government areas of Townsville, Palm Island, Brisbane, Ipswich, Logan City, Moreton Bay, Redlands, Sunshine Coast, Noosa, Somerset, Lockyer Valley, Scenic Rim and Gold Coast can only leave home for one of these four reasons:
- To buy essentials such as groceries or medications
- Work or study if you can't do either from home
- Exercise in your local area
- Healthcare or to provide help, care or support
People in lockdown can have a maximum of two visitors including children.
If you leave Queensland's lockdown zone before 6pm, the lockdown still applies to you.
