Last week those fortunate enough to leave the property were in Rockhampton for the triennial showcase Beef Australia 2021.
Visitors saw some of the best prime cattle in Australia competing in prestigious competitions, were introduced to agtech innovations, road tested products, attended seminars, and enjoyed catch-ups with friends and industry representatives.
State governments have both political and departmental divisions. At times those at the forefront of government service delivery unfortunately bear the brunt of producer frustrations imposed by the political decision makers.
Thankfully most understand and show empathy as they work with landholders to navigate departmental requirements.
Our family business has benefited from the knowledge and networks our connections have developed throughout their careers.
The exposure to other operations enables these experts to challenge us, provide suggestions and offer solutions for our enterprises.
What's even better are the genuine friendships that have formed from this joint commitment to the beef industry.
Urban relatives are vital for helping to inform their friends about the good things farmers do.
Financiers and other advisors understand the peaks and troughs of our operating environment.
We are fortunate to deal with businesses who respect our commitment to best practice management.
As Queensland's biggest agricultural exporter, beef has a proud history of contributing nearly $6 billion to the national economy.
Combined with other states this industry exports over $15 billion worth of product and supports almost 50,000 agricultural businesses.
Currently, beef producers are enjoying high prices and lower interest rates that is enabling businesses to consolidate debt and expand where possible.
As we spent last week showcasing all that is good about beef production in Australia it seems pertinent to thank those who help ensure this is possible.
In many cases, despite wishing otherwise, personal circumstances prevent these individuals from being in our shoes.
Therefore, on behalf of beef producers I'd like to thank everyone involved in the industry including processors and others in the supply chain, R&D, advocacy, extension roles, agtech, merchandise, insurance, financial services, freight and advisory roles.
We can't do it without you.
