ONE of the first things Rodger and Lorena Jefferis of Elrose Brahman Stud did during 2020 was to select and reserve a team of impeccably credentialed bulls for the 2021 Big Country Brahman Sale from the first crop of their $325,000 Australian record price sire purchase, NCC Justified.
"We wanted to make certain early on that we earmarked the highest standard line of bulls for the Big Country market and put them away so we wouldn't be tempted to offer them otherwise," Mr Jefferis said.
"We're very proud and pleased to bring them to Charters Towers and offer them in the presence of Northern Australian cattle producers.
"The Justified progeny all have large doses of the beef industry qualities leading cattle producers appreciate and benefit from."
Ten of the stud's 13 bull lots are sons of NCC Justified.
A single light honey red bull, Elrose Janitor, sells on the sale's first day in the red section as lot 81, a young poll bull out of a good, heavy red damline. He has exceptional length, bone and muscle expression; a natural trait evident in all the Justifieds. Buyers will also find Janitor very correct and stylish, and showing masculine strength in his head.
Grey buyers will have three Elrose runs on day two of Big Country to select a Justified son from. The highly impressive poll sire prospect Elrose Bennett leads the first run, from lots 274 to 276. He has sire appeal every way you look at him, and backs it up with beef industry performance power unparalleled in a rising two-year-old.
Justification leads the second grey run of NCC Justified sons, lots 291 to 296.
"This is a super group of strong pigment dark grey bulls, all sound, high quality, beautiful temperament, high weight performers and carcase kings," sale auctioneer Ken McCaffrey said.
"Justification, a poll, is an imposing individual with a proud sire's presence, extra length and a muscle pattern of perfection."
The consistency of a whole host of valuable, optimum beef attributes in this group, is what Elrose was searching for when they purchased Justified, according to Mr Jefferis.
"We've never spent so much money more wisely," he said.
"Certainly it's a risk when you go into uncharted waters to buy and use a sire, however every calf that comes along by him makes us even more pleased with our decision, and that reinforces our confidence in similar performance from his sire sons."
Three rising two-year-old, white grey, poll bulls complete Elrose's offering, lots 357 to 359.
If buyers are still yet to secure a son of NCC Justified, then the strong breed quality and eye catching sire prospect Just So, lot 357, offers plenty to suit studmasters, with outstanding length and growth and a beautiful broad backline.
"What you see in the first one we offer is what you see in the last one with the Justifieds," Mr Jefferis said.
Elrose stud has also catalogued an attractive line of five unjoined, white grey heifers - lots 189 to 193 - that will be sold on the first afternoon.
The first four of them are poll, ready for stud duty and ideal to contribute towards the breed's increasing demand for quality poll seedstock.
"They are a lovely group, very feminine, clean bodied, well grown, excellent temperament and EBV backed," Mr McCaffrey said.
