The success of Mort & Co branded beef continues to attract accolades, with the operation recently taking out the Gerry Doumany export category at the 2020 Toowoomba Business Excellence Awards.
A divisional winner in 2019, Mort & Co went one better this year to win the export award, after another strong performance by the business' Phoenix Beef program which includes three winning brands - the Grandchester, Phoenix and the Master Selection.
Mort & Co general manager of meat sales and operations Brett Williams was delighted by the result, recognising the business' positive annual performance and unwavering appetite for progression as a collective effort.
"In recent years, we have taken some significant steps to increase the consistency and quality of all our products," Mr Williams said.
"What is particularly pleasing, is that these steps are delivering us success on a continual basis.
"Our Phoenix Beef program has been in operation a little over five years. It's incredible to think our beef has claimed so many accolades over that time, but similarly, that the company has also been recognised for its export excellence.
"While 2020 hasn't been without challenges, this could not be achieved without the dedication of everyone across our supply chain. I commend the local business community on a fantastic showcase of talent."
The awards are held to celebrate the business community's contribution to the economic vitality and social fabric of the Toowoomba region.
Applicants were assessed from 44 finalists across a set of criteria, which emphasised a commitment to not only sustaining bottom-line results, but to the superiority of service, strategy, commitment to customers, staff satisfaction, ethical behaviour and environmental sustainability.
In addition to a written application, site visits were also conducted by a panel of judges to gain a greater understanding of each business.
