Soils are critical for all life on earth. They act as a water filter and a growing medium; provide habitat for billions of organisms, contributing to biodiversity; and supply most of the antibiotics used to fight diseases. Soil is the basis of our nation's agroecosystems which provide us with food, fibre and foliage and not only underpin sustainable productivity, but they improve the resilience of Queensland's farms. With World Soil Day this Saturday, December 5, the Queensland Farmers' Federation is focusing its attention on the importance of healthy soil for agricultural production and for protecting natural environments.
