Enjoying the relaxation on crowd numbers, around 1500 people had a terrific afternoon out at the Royal on 99 Roma Cup race meeting on Saturday.
It was a much smaller crowd than usually seen at this time of year but they still enjoyed all that the day brings without the pools and camping.
Fashions on the Field attracted plenty of interest and lots of onlookers in air-conditioned comfort.
Under bright sunshine Scrabble won the Royal on 99 Roma Cup by a nose from Barcaldine horse Eschielle to qualify for the Country Cups Challenge in Doomben, while Another Sin won the Country Stampede qualifier.
Raced by leading NSW trainer Brett Cavanough, it was 35 years since he'd been to the Roma course and to mark the occasion his jockey 'Bubba' Tilley wore the colours of former trainer Jim McCormack, who taught him his trade.
