The Mort & Co branded beef story continues to grow from strength to strength and has again proven victorious, this time in their first ever appearance at the Perth Royal Food Awards.
An integral part of Western Australia's agricultural industry, the branded beef awards are judged across six classes including grass-fed; grain-fed; Wagyu Aus-Meat marble score 5+, veal - milk; grass/grain; export beef; and open beef categories.
Mort & Co were crowned champions in two separate categories as well as being awarded a bronze in another.
Competing against entrants from all over Australia, Phoenix Beef brands Master Selection (Purebred and Fullblood Wagyu), The Phoenix (F1-F4 Marbled Wagyu), and Grandchester (Black Angus), delivered success in all three classes entered, achieving the champion and gold medal in the export beef class with their Master Selection; champion and gold medal in the Wagyu marble score 5+ with The Phoenix; and a bronze medal in the grain-fed beef with Grandchester.
General manager for meat sales and operations at Mort & Co, Brett Williams said the result was a fantastic achievement for the business, and particularly commendable considering the challenges 2020 has presented.
"It has been a unique period for every industry and business. There have been many challenges that we have navigated, so it's terrific to get such a great reward at the back end of the year, for all the hard work."
The results complement the earlier achievements by Mort &Co at the Australian Wagyu Awards where Master Selection and The Phoenix collected three gold and two bronze, as well as gold and bronze at the Royal Queensland Food and Wine Show.
