IT may have the blood pressure levels of grain growers and cane farmers trying to get crops off soaring, but the pastoral industry is looking skyward for the first decent break in spring.
The latest Bureau of Meteorology mapping shows 10mm to very handy 25mm falls over a big area of Queensland, particularly across the Downs and Wide Bay regions.
However, what has livestock producers even more excited is the outlook for next month, backed by an active la nina weather system.
BOM modelling shows that November rain is on its way (see the map below).
Australia's official weather forecaster says much of eastern Australia is rated as having a 75 to 80 per cent chance of above average rainfall.
In a random selection across the state, the modelling for November shows 74mm is likely at Brookstead, 64mm is likely at Eidsvold, and 33mm is likely at Cloncurry, while 48mm is very likely at Morven, 34mm is very likely at Mount Coolon, and 33mm is very likely at Belyando.
This week
On Thursday BOM says there is a slight to medium chance of showers and thunderstorms about the southern and central inland parts, while a slight chance extends to parts of the north west.
There is even an area of potentially severe thunderstorms possible over parts of the southern and central inland districts in the afternoon and evening.
BOM says the news gets better on Friday when an upper trough approaches from the west increasing shower and thunderstorm activity throughout western and central parts of the state.

From Saturday until Monday there is a slight to medium chance of showers and thunderstorms over most parts of the state, increasing to medium to high over inland central and southern parts.
"Some potentially severe thunderstorm activity are possible about inland regions at varies times throughout the outlook period, possibly extending to more eastern regions during Sunday and Monday," BOM says.
