IN their last three sales, Darren Hegarty and family of Carabar Angus, Meandarra, have experienced the highs and lows of selling bulls at their annual on-property fixture.
The Hegarty family has gone from the penthouse - after selling the $110,000 Queensland record priced bull - to the outhouse last year when they cleared only a fraction of the draft at modest money and this year they arrived at the top floor clearing their entire draft for a solid $7155 average.
It was a massive turnaround for co-principal Darren Hegarty who was obviously delighted with their sale result and reckoned they had 'turned the corner'.
"It was great to see so many people turn up which included a number of new buyers and our regular, strong western Queensland buyers back again," Mr Hegarty said.
Joint selling agents Elders and GDL sold 58 out of 58 bulls for a $7155 average to a top of $12,000 for Carabar Lotto P149.
A son of Western Australia sire Esslemont Lotto L3, the 23-month-old had exceptional growth performance and carcase data which included 6.7 for intramuscular fat percentage.
Carabar Lotto P149 was bought by first-time buyer Stephen Pott, Glenleigh, Talwood, who intends to use him over commercial Brangus cows to 'square them up a bit'.
"I'm looking for that extra spring of rib in my cows and add some width to their hindquarters," he said.
Overall, the sale was very solid with another nine bulls selling for $10,000 which included Carabar Docklands P115, a full brother to the $110,000 record priced bull, and Carabar Docklands L36 which was bought by Kemp family, Larksghyll Pty Ltd, Tara.
