The bidding was fast furious at the Artesian Droughtmaster Sale held at the Blackall Saleyards last Monday, October 12.

Overall 71 bulls were offered and topped at $20,000, to average of $9300 realising a 100 per cent clearance. This sale average was up by 58pc on the 2019 event when bulls averaged $5941.
Sale topping bull was Yaralla Arthur, a son of Medway Xavior (P) offered by the McKenzie family, and purchased by the the McCormack family of Clonlara Droughtmasters, Glenmorgan.
Yaralla Arthur, a 23 month bull weighed 790 kilograms, has an eye muscle area of 128 square centimetres and a scrotal circumference of 42cms.
Buyer, Gus McCormack said he was drawn to the bull and he was impressed by his bone, lift stretch, tidy underline and beautiful temperament.
"He has the overall balance that I look for - a good bull from a good stable"
Second top priced bull at $18,000 was the Donaldson family's Medway Congress, who is a polled bull and was sold to Larry Farquhar of Calco Droughtmasters, Rolleston.
A youngster at 20 months, Medway Congress weighed 830kgs, has an eye muscle area of 140sq cm and scrotal circumference of 39 cms.
Calco Droughtmasters also bought Medway Charity for $17,000, and both new sires will be used for stud duties within the herd..
Volume buyer was the Scholes family of Blackall who finished with nine bulls.
Overall the vendor averages include Yaralla Droughtmasters who sold 19 bulls to average $9842, Clonlara Droughtmasters sold eight bulls to average $8875,Locarno Droughtmasters sold nine bulls to average $6666, Medway sold 27 to average $10,296 while Western Red offered eight bulls to average $8750.
For many years the vendor group has donated 10pc of the proceeds from a chosen bull from each respective stud. This year was no different and Artesian is extremely pleased to raise $4800 for the Royal Flying Doctor Service.
Sale co-ordinator, Dean Allen said as a vendor group they were blown away by the strong demand shown in the sale ring.
"This year, we felt we presented our strongest line yet. It is very pleasing to see the support of many repeat buyers as well as quite a few first time buyers bidders," Mr Allen said.
"While the sale average was high, we felt there was still good value there for the buyers"
