The Urquharts sold a line of 112 Brahman-cross No.0 weaner steers to Malanbar Grazing, Alpha. The steers had an average weight of 115 kilograms and returned $750/head.
The couple also offered a line of 94 Brahman-cross steers, also No.0, with an average weight of 216kg selling to 444c to return $960, to an interstate buyer near Hillston, NSW.
Both lines were assessed for AuctionsPlus by Elders Charters Towers livestock manager John Soutar.
"The bidding throughout the sale was strong, with bids starting in the 380c to 390c category for these two lots," he said.
"These weaners were presented in store condition and are ready to jump out of their skins on good feed."
Mr and Mrs Urquhart took delivery of Adelong in late October 2019, relocating from coastal country north of Rockhampton.
Included in the property transaction were 1400 cattle of which two-thirds were quality grey Brahman cows and crossbred calves.
"The cows had been joined to Brahmans, Droughtmasters, Charolais and some Charbray bulls," Mr Urquhart said.
"It was mostly the progeny from these cows which we offered on the AuctionsPlus sale, and we really were not expecting such a good result.
"Normally we would have liked to hang onto them until they had more weight gain, but the money was there so we took it."
Mr Urquhart said they bought some Red Angus bulls with them when they moved to Adelong.
"We are now expecting our first drop of calves and are looking forward to seeing the result of the Brahman/Red Angus-cross," he said.
He said the season on Adelong was terrible when they took delivery, but luckily the sky opened in January through to March, and they received good rain which set them up with winter feed.
"It is now starting to dry off again so La Nina is welcome as soon as she can get here," he said.
