The 18th annual Roma Poll Hereford Bull Sale saw 18 bulls sell to a top of $11,000 at the Roma Saleyards on Monday.
Vendors Ivan and Amanda Burcher, Binara Poll Hereford Stud, Goondiwindi, and Trevor and Pearl Saal, Kalem Poll Herefords, Pittsworth, cleared 70 per cent of their offering to achieve an average of $6194.
The top price bull came out of the Binara herd, Binara Profit 146, who was sired by Yavenvale Laser L326 (AI).
Profit was purchased by Alice and Darren Marks, who purchased a total of four bulls averaging $7500 for their Clermont based Braford herd.
Displaying a quiet temperament, good pigment and a clean coat, Profit stands in the top five per cent of the breed for 200, 400 and 600 day growth rates.
The Marks family began buying bulls from the Roma Poll Hereford sale in 2012.
In some of the other top sales of the day, long time Poll Hereford breeders, Roma's Joliffe family, took home two Binara bulls for $9000 and $8000.
Charleville's Lanfranchi family, Warilda Station, purchased two Binara bulls for $6000 and $8000 each while Arbroath Grazing Co, Roma, purchased two Kalem bulls for $7000 and $5000.
Selling agent Steve Goodhew, PJH Livestock, said the ten buyers selected sires for both purebred and crossbred herds.
"The quality was certainly there, we just needed a few more buyers to clear a few more bulls," he said.
"The vendors always put up a terrific draft of bulls."
The 2020 sale helped to mark a special year for Kalem stud principals, Trevor and Pearl Saal who are celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary.
The couple established the Kalem Poll Hereford Stud in 1973 and have been selling Poll Hereford bulls at Roma since 1983.
The Saals list Ekka and Beef Australia grand champions among their proud achievements, along with their eight children, 23 grandchildren and 37 great grandchildren with another two on the way.
