The Premier's Reading Challenge is back in 2020 and its initiative's partner, QSuper, is offering Queensland students the opportunity to win their school an exclusive workshop with an award-winning children's author.
To win the workshop for their school, QSuper is asking students to reveal their favourite books as part of its Top 5 Book Challenge.
QSuper Chief Executive Officer, Michael Pennisi said they are committed to Queensland education and supporting the important work of Queensland teachers.
"The Premier's Reading Challenge inspires a love of reading in students and works to increase literacy rates across the state," Mr Pennisi said.
"Last year, over a hundred students told us about their favourite books and we're hoping for even more young readers to get involved in 2020, our sixth year supporting the Challenge.
"As long term supporters, it's fantastic to see the initiative go ahead this year despite the impact of the pandemic on Queensland schools. It's a testament to the important work of teachers and librarians across the state."
At the end of the competition, QSuper will award two lucky Queensland schools with an exclusive writing workshop hosted by award-winning author Brian Falkner, who has published 20 books in the last two decades.
"Personally, I'm a big fan of Roald Dahl, and Matilda would be my favourite. It's a wonderful, whacky and creative story that shows off Dahl's imagination," Brian said.
"When you're young, the windows of your imagination are wide open and, in my experience, a love of reading allows you to keep that imagination as you transition into adulthood.
"I'm looking forward to hosting workshops at two Queensland schools which will focus on the creation of stories, how to craft believable, empathetic characters which go on a journey, and how to make others want to read it."
QSuper will select two student nominations who will win their school a one of a kind literary workshop. There are also eight $500 book vouchers to be won.
In 2019, more than 168,000 Queensland children read more than 2.31 million books as part of the Premier's Reading Challenge.
QSuper's Top 5 Book competition is open now and closes on 28 August 2020.
