A uniformly excellent draft of 37 Senepol Australia Registered Bulls have been selected for the NT Senepols Invitational Sale, which this year due to the uncertainty surrounding COVID-19 restrictions will be held online only from 10am on Monday, June 22.
Namoona Trig (NT) Senepols stud principal Blair Godfrey said this years sale draft is comprised of 35 NT bulls including 33 purebred Senepols, one 75 per cent Senepol/25 pc Angus, one 75pc Senepol/25pc Red Angus, and two purebred Senepol bulls from fellow vendors, the Porter family, Silverleigh Senepols.
Mr Godfrey has been NT Senepol genetics into the north since 2011.
"The north is a good area for the breed, as their traits provide a good compliment for Brahman and Droughtmaster crossbreeding operations," he said.
"Senepols are ideal for northern producers who want to maintain the tropical adaptability in their herd while keeping the meat quality of the progeny on par with the British breeds. The breed being naturally poll is another big asset for commercial producers as they don't have to go down the DNA path to achieve that goal, when they're guaranteed poll calves."
"We've selected a handy draft of young bulls for the sale which will be aged between 15 to 28 months-old on sale day.
"These bulls are on average better fleshed than a lot of the Senepol bulls that have been made available on the market in the past. There is also quite a bit of variation in their genetics with 10 sires being represented in the draft."
Mr Godfrey said in the past the sale has attracted bidders as far north-west as Richmond, as well as Townsville, Roma and down to Taree in New South Wales.
He said all lots in the sale will be offered simultaneously through AuctionsPlus per their usual weekly commercial sales.
"We're offering a five per cent agents rebate for prospective buyers who aren't familiar with the AuctionsPlus platform, so that they can talk to their agents who can bid on their behalf.
Mr Godfrey said as the sale won't be held at Rockhampton as it usually would be, the sale vendors are offering free freight to CQLX Gracemere, the Emerald Saleyards, and anywhere within a 200km radius of Casino, Northern NSW.
He said the bulls selected for the sale are available for inspection from now right up until sale day.
"The NT Senepols bulls will be on property at Casino and the two Silverleigh bulls will be at their home property at Oakey.
Mr Godfrey said the NT Senepols bulls have been prepared in a rocky hill paddock where they have had ad lib access to Rhodes Grass dominated pasture, Riverina 14% Stud Cattle Pellets, and Wheaten Header Tailings for close to 90 days pre-sale.
"Prior to this they were on and off drought rations from weaning with an eight week period on grass prior to going on full sale preparation. This isn't usually the way we like to raise our bulls, but as most are aware the seasons didn't give us much choice."
