Queensland was well represented in the national cattle listings last week, with throughput numbers almost doubling, up 4458 to see a total yard of 8928. Southern Qld was the largest listing region with 4403 head hitting the box.

Cow and calf units increased by $81 to average $2208 while PTIC cows reduced by $99 to average $1868. Despite fluctuation of pricing, lines of breeders consisting of considerable numbers were sought after including 72 Brahman and Brahman cross cows, aged two to 14 years with 130kg CAF, from Prairie, which sold for $1400 and a line of 90 Hereford and Hereford cross cows, two to 10 years with 100kg CAF, from Tambo returned $1910.
PTIC heifers were among notable price increases, with an average $58 higher than previous week to total $1664. A line of 109 Charbray PTIC heifers averaging 302kg from Wyandra sold for $1110 and are southbound to Wodonga, Victoria.
Weaner, yearling and grown heifers and steers all saw slightly reduced sale averages across the state. Steers 280-330kg sold from 276c/kg to 482c to average 399c. A line of Charolais cross backgrounder steers from Jundah weighing 313kg sold for 389c and are heading to Coonamble, NSW.
Feedlot suitable cattle 330 - 400kg sold from 292c to 434c, averaging 366c. Highlights include 102 Santa Gertrudis cross backgrounder steers from Theodore selling for 356c. These steers weigh 341kg, are 15 - 20 months and will travel to Bollon.
SHEEP
Sheep listings for the state increased two-fold from the previous week to see over 15,000 head up for auction. Despite the spike in numbers, clearance remained a steady 85 per cent, down only 5pc.
Merino wether lambs were the largest listed category with over 5700 sold. Nationwide clearance was strong at 79pc with prices ranging between $125 and $202 to average $158. A notable line by Narada Grazing Co, Tambo, which averaged 38kg sold for $172 and are headed interstate to Coonamble, NSW.
Of note, all lots of woolgrower wether lambs sold at auction are travelling into NSW to populate the central and north-west regions which are highest buying regions for the week.
Older Merino ewes saw a price increase of $24 and sold between $182 to $387 to average $260. A line of 615 head from The Gums weighing 52kg sold for $263 and are heading to Mungindi, NSW accompanied by another younger line of two to three-year-old NSM ewes which averaged 46kg and sold for $261.
