A large buying gallery were keen to buy at the annual Barwidgee Angus bull sale pushing prices to a record average of $8037.
The keen interest from buyers was also evident in the clearance the saw the total draft of 53 bulls offered being sold under the hammer.
Vendors David and Wendy Kelly presented an even line-up of bulls that saw a top price of $17,000 reached with two other bulls selling for $14,000 each.
Wendy Kelly said they were thrilled with the sale result.
She said the sale included a number of sons that were the first by Rennylea L519 to hit the sale ring.
She said L519 "has everything".
The result showed breeders were chasing the sort of bulls Barwidgee was breeding.
She said there were some new clients, but a lot were return clients.
The sale topper was high on many buyers's lists but went to Boyd McKinnon, Dartmoor. The bull was a son of L519 (an Intensity sire) with a figure of +3.7 for intramuscular fat (IMF).
Mr McKinnon said the bull would be used in his 400-cow Angus herd.
The operation was aimed at producing grass finished heifers and steers.
He said the Barwidgee bulls were raised on grass-only and that's why he bought them.
Mr McKinnon also bought a second L519 son for equal second top price of $14,000. This bull weighed 652kg and had an EMA of +9.8.
Lot 1 of the sale also made $14,000, bought by Abbey Hills Partnership, Hawkesdale, and was another L519-sired bull. This lot had figures of +103 kilograms for 400-day weight and +132kg for 600-day weight and an eye muscle index of +9.8 square centimetres. The same buyer paid $13,000 for lot 14 by Lawsons Linkedin L483, and two other lots at $9000 and $7000.
Boortkoi Pastoral, Hexham, was a volume buyer with three bulls paying up to $12,000 to average $10,666. Its top lot was a son of Rennylea K811 with figures in the top 20 per cent for 400 and 600-day weight.
Glenwood Pastoral Trust paid $11,000 for lot 25, a "heifer" bull by Barwidgee 15118, and $9000 for lot 18, a Rennylea L211 son.
The Robertson Partnership paid $9500 for lot 13, a son of Gar Sure Fire with a +120kg 600-day weight and +7.2 EMA.
Tarrawarra Abbybought two bulls paying up to $9000 for lot 7 and $6000 for lot 12. Lot seven was sired by Rennylea L211 and had figures of +10.2 EMA and +3.7 IMF.
Also making $9500 was lot 28 to BE & JM Lewis, while lot 35 went to Nevflo Pty Ltd.
