Stud breeders Dale and Belinda Humphries, Wattle Grove Speckle Park, Oberon, NSW, brought their quality genetics to the buyers and held their second Twilight Sale at the Toowoomba Showgrounds on Saturday evening.
Following the success of their inaugural Queensland debut in 2018, they transported all sale lots to Queensland six months ago, where they have been under the stewardship of renowned cattle fitter Stephen Hayward, Allora.
Overall 27 bulls averaged $7222 and topped at $16,000, while 19 females averaged $9656 and topped at $25,000.
Bryan, Arlie and Rebel Wormwell, Monivae, Tara, fought off all opposition to secure the top price heifer at $25,000.
The rising two-year-old K247 Sixy WGS P641 is by Maungahinia Kidmans Cover (P) (Leopard) from the Wattle Grove 82U Six H26 (Speckled) and has been positively tested in-calf to WGG P503.
A repeat buyer of the Wattle Grove bloodlines, Mr Wormwell said the heifer was very appealing has the good temperament, is in-calf, and her figures are very impressive.
Mr Wormwell said the heifer would calf down, then be flushed before another natural joining.
"The reason we invested in Speckle Park cattle is because of their yield and eating quality," he said.
Peter and Bonnie Doolan, Willow Bend Speckle Park, Timboon, Victoria, paid to $18,000 for the 18-month-old heifer 300X Amanda WGS, who is positively tested in-calf to GSP N9. T
The Doolans continued buying and paid to $11,000 for E4 Stardust PO3, who is also in-calf to GSP N9.
They also secured the top price bull, He's Got the Look WSG N314, a homozygous polled sire by Johner Stock Farm Trade Secret (White) from Wattle Grove Amys Girl (Speckled).
They first spotted He's Got the Look some 12 months ago when he was catalogued for sale last year, and as that sale did not eventuate, he was re-catalogued for the Twilight Sale.
"We certainly made sure we secured him this time," Mr Doolan said.
At 29 months of age He's Got the Look weighed 900 kilograms, has a scrotal circumference of 41 centimetres and eye muscle area of 122 square centimetres.
The Doolans are third generation dairy farmers milking 600 cows daily, and took the opportunity to bid through Elite Livestock Auctions.
Mr Doolan said they milk mainly Friesian plus some Jersey and Australian Reds and had been looking for beef bulls to use as mop up sires after their artificial insemination program.
"We started using the Speckle Park bulls and found they are an easy calving breed, and have now registered our stud as an additional income stream," he said.
The Jamieson family, Inverell, NSW, finished with two bulls paying to a $12,500 top for Challenger WGS P764.
Rhonda King, Sugarloaf Farm, Bingara, NSW, paid $12,500 for the unjoined heifer, 60A Libby WGS P721, a Codiak Acres Oh My Gosh daughter.
Jack Nelson, Jackungah Speckle Park, Pine Ridge, Victoria, paid $11,000 for the 14-month-old unjoined heifer 60A Karalee WGS P724.
Gordon and Desley Davidson, Cheshire, Tambo, selected two bulls paying to $10,000 and $9500 respectively.
