There were 623 head of mixed quality cattle yarded at Toowoomba on Monday.

The opening market in Toowoomba penned 623 head of mixed quality cattle on Monday.

A fair number of buyers were in attendance however not all were operating. Most classes sold to fair demand for the quality penned, however drought affected lines and those not meeting exact market specifications experienced limited competition.

Light weight yearling steers returning to the paddock averaged 252c and made to 268c, and poor quality lines averaged 175c/kg. Yearling steers to feed for the domestic market made to 297c and averaged 268c, and medium weights averaged 271c/kg. A small sample of heavy weight yearling steers to feed made to 294.2c to average 285c, with the occasional sale to the trade at 299c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers averaged 210c and made to 226c, and drought affected classes averaged 95c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to the trade made to 267c to average 261c, and a handful of well presented heavy weights to the trade made to 291c/kg.

Light weight poor condition cows averaged 90c, and the medium weights averaged 143c and made to 155c/kg. Medium weight 2 scores averaged 174c, and made to 186c/kg. Good heavy cows made to 220c to average 217c/kg. Heavy bulls made to 220c/kg.
