A draft strategy on the review of Queensland's stock route network undertaken by the Department of Natural Resources Mines and Energy will be released in the first quarter of 2020.
DNRME is currently working with stakeholders to discuss future management arrangements for Queensland's iconic stock route network, including what fees should apply to users. The current fees have not been updated since 2003.
The review is being taken in close consultation with stakeholders, including local governments, AgForce and drovers.
A Department of Natural Resources, Mines and Energy spokesperson said local governments will continue to be responsible for the primary stock route.
"Government will balance the needs of all users of the stock route and ensure the local councils who run the stock route network receive an adequate return."
