Cattle numbers from Queensland held fell by 500 head last week to see 1593 head offered, with plenty of interstate buying from Queensland buyers.
Steers under 280kg from Queensland sold from 244c to 374c to average 316c, up 41c on last week, while steers over 280kg from Queensland sold from 269c to 317c, to average 291c, down 18c.
Steer highlights from Queensland included 246kg Angus steers from Meandarra selling for 374c, and 300kg Angus steers from Goondiwindi selling for 317c.
Across the platform there were only three lines of trade steers weighing 330-400kg to sell last week, with the Tasmanian Cattle Sale returning the top price for the stock category of 351c or $1250. This was achieved by a line of Poll Hereford yearling steers that weigh 355kg and outstandingly, these steers were secured by a buyer from Ilfracombe, and have a 2500km journey from Merseylea ahead of them.
Nationally heifers weighing between 280-330kg sold from 249c to 350c to average 277c. Heifers weighing under 200kg sold from 253c to 328c averaging 297c. Heifers weighing between 330-400kg sold from 247c to 328c and averaged 277c.
Heavier heifers over 400kg sold from 260c to 292c to average 287c. The top price was returned by a mob of 113 Angus yearling heifers from Gunnedah, NSW. These heifers are 13-16 months old, weigh 435kg and were secured a buyer from Oakley.
SHEEP
Sheep and lamb number numbers from Queensland rose by 5000 head to see 7288 head offered.
Demand for Merino ewe lambs was strong last week with the category returning a 100 per cent clearance, and selling from $90 to $370, averaging $196, up $60. A mob of Aug/Sept '18 drop ewe lambs from St George sold for $130.
Young Merino breeders (two to four years) sold from $115 to $325, averaging $197, up $37. From Dirranbandi, a line of NSM ewes, two to four years, weighing 57kg returned $147.
Nationally Merino wether lambs averaged $110, down $4, and sold from $73 to $145, while grown Merino wethers sold from $67 to $125, averaging $104, down $16. Merino wether lambs from Isisford, 10 to 12 months old and 38kg sold for $110.
