The Young Beef Producers' Forum has kicked off in Roma, bringing together the next generation of agriculture from almost every state and territory.
In what has been the biggest yarding of young guns in the 15 years of the forum, almost 400 delegates, guest speakers and trade exhibitors have gathered to talk all things 'Back Yourself. Back Your Industry.'
YBPF committee chair Sarah Packer said it was great to see such a large group of attendees engaged by a diverse range of speakers.
"This year has seen a massive turnout of first-time attendees, highlighting that the forum is gaining momentum with each year that passes," she said.
"It's great to be able to bring together the next generation of agriculture, providing educational, networking and capacity-building opportunities.
"Given the environment the agriculture industry is currently facing, we wanted a theme that encouraged people to step up and be proud of where they come from and know that there is a future in the agriculture industries.
"Looking around the forum on day one, it's clear that there is a strong group of up-and-comers who are keen to take any opportunity presented to them, even in such challenging conditions."
The forum kicked off with what the committee dubbed a saleyards extravaganza.
Delegates attended the Roma Saleyards to experience the biggest selling centre in the Southern Hemisphere, followed by presentations that included biosecurity and "the importance of backing the system that backs you" from Rachel O'Brien, Animal Health Australia; nutrition advice from Stocklick Trading and some of the frequently asked questions they've had to answer during the dry; and, Daniel and Kasey Phillips, Murgona Cattle Co, Wandoan, who talked about their journey to being commercial and stud Santa Gertrudis breeders.
