A Charolais homozygous polled bull who is ranked in the top five per cent of the breed for 200-day growth met with spirited bidding at the Bondfield family's Palgrove sale, at Dalveen on Friday.
At 24 months of age Palgrove Necessity, a son of Palgrove Kudos (P) R/F from Palgrove Estella B703E was the sale topper at $38,000.
Overall 82 Charolais bulls sold to average $10,122.
Palgrove Necessity has a weight of 1038kg, a scrotal circumference of 41cm, P8 fat cover of 10mm and rib 8mm, eye muscle area of 153sq cm and a marbling IMF percentage of 5.1.
He was bought by northern cattleman Bill Allison, Broadlands, McKinlay.
Mr Allison will use his new sire to breed commercial bulls for use in his own breeding and paddock sales.
"He really is one hell of a bull and he ticked all my boxes as being the best bull in the draft I thought," Mr Allison said.
Next at $26,000 was Palgrove Nebraska (P), a son of Winn Mans Skaggs from a Palgrove Felicity female.
He was bought by Len, Pat and Tania Haynes, River Run Charolais, Linville.
Donald Burnett from Mt Douglas Pastoral Co, Belyando, paid $25,000 Palgrove Naturalism (P), an impressive son of Palgrove Legacy (P) from a Palgrove Panache female.
Overall 29 bulls sold for $10,000 or higher.
In the Ultrablack section of the catalogue it was Palgrove Nockabout who led the charge at $18,000 for the top price honours.
Nockabout, who definitely had 'star appeal' is by Palgrove Kingpin K124 from Palgrove L1638 and was bought by Eric and Lynn Slack-Smith, Gladesvale, Richmond.
Injune district cattleman David Benn, Mt Kingsley, Arcadia Valley near Injune, bought Palgrove Noteworthy for $14,000.
Overall the Ultrablack portion of the sale averaged $6621, with five bulls selling above $10,000.
Co-principal David Bondfield said he was very happy with the overall sale result.
"We were humbled to have buyers from four states of Australia and a total clearance rate," Mr Bondfield said.
"The buying support is an endorsement of our breeding philosophy."
This year the Bondfield family celebrated 50 years of breeding Charolais cattle and this was their 35th annual sale.
