BULLS sold to a top of $9750 to average $3759 at the annual Lilydale Charolais sale at Toogoolawah on Saturday.

Despite some pre-sale nerves the sale flowed through smoothly under auctioneers Garth Weatherall and Jack Fogg, with only two of the 30 bulls presented passed in for a 93 per cent clearance.
Sale topper was the very well bred French bull Bird Hill Neptune bought by Rob Clarkson, Cowandilla, Linville. Offered by Lockyer Valley producers Jim and Janice Spreadborough, Blenheim, the 24 month old with a 144 square centimetre eye muscle area and 37.5cm scrotal circumference featured Pinay bloodlines.
The Clarksons also bought Ross Sticklen's Ayr-bloodline bull Lilydale Norris for $5500. The well presented 22 month old weighed 945kg with a 145sq cm ema.
Second top price of $6500 was paid for the polled bull Bird Hill Nikko. Bred in hilly, lantana country, Nikko sold to Lloyd Golinski, Exelawn, Colinton. The 960kg 23 month old had a 133sq cm ema.
Volume buyer was Eskdale Cattle, Esk, with five. Warren and Carolyn Drynan, Telemon Crossing, Innis Plain, bought four.
The eight cows offered sold to top of $4500 to average $2825.
The poll Palgrove Flaxen selling to Rob and Wendy Stokes, Mount Walker. The 38 month old in calf to Palgrove Leader is for the Walker's granddaughter Gabriella, who is in Year 9 at WestMAC College, Ipswich.
Seven heifers were also offered, selling to a top of $3000 twice to average $2214. The tops were offered by Ross Sticklen, Lilydale Charolais, Helidon, and went to Paul and Roz O'Brien, Aranbanga, Gayndah.
