Numbers reduced by 387 head to 931 at Toowoomba on Monday, and also included in the yarding were 29 registered bulls sold open auction. The overall quality of the yarding was mixed and young cattle were in the largest numbers. The usual panel of buyers was present and most were operating.
The better end of the light weight yearling steers and heifers experienced a small improvement and lesser quality lines were cheaper. Medium and heavy weight yearling steers to feed could not maintain the prices of the previous sale. However, medium weight yearling heifers to feed received fair demand.
Cows varied in price, with medium weight plain condition cows improving by 7c/kg, and a very small selection of good cows experienced a cheaper trend. Light weight yearling steers returning to the paddock averaged 245c and made to 269.2c/kg. Yearling steers weighing 280-330kg to feed averaged 245c and made to 269.2c, with some to restockers reaching 281.2c/kg. Medium weight yearling steers to feed averaged 248c and made to 268.2c/kg. Heavy weight yearling steers to feed averaged 265c and made to 273.2c, with a small number returning to the paddock reaching 283.2c/kg.
A small selection of B muscle heavy weight yearling steers sold to the trade at 310.2c to average 301c/kg. Light weight yearling heifers mainly sold in the mid-to high 190c/kg area, with some well-bred classes to restockers reaching 238.2c. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed averaged 225c and made to 248.2c. Heavy grown steers to export process made to 287.2c, and some full mouth bullocks reached 279.2c. Medium weight poor condition cows averaged 137c and the better 2 scores average 172c, making to 187.2c. The occasional good heavy cow made to 202.2c. Heavy bulls made to 256.2c.
