THE northern conference of the Australian Intercollegiate Meat Judging Association is poised to give Australia's beef capital a red meat treat from April 25-27.
For the first time, the ICMJ will head north from its customary NSW base, courtesy of the collaborative efforts of the University of Central Queensland and Teys Australia.
Thrilled organisers are celebrating reaching the cap of 85 registrations. Similarly, they are confident keynote speakers such as Teys' Sarah Taylor and Tom Maguire, CQUniversity's Michael Thomson and ICMJ president Dr Peter McGilchrist will inform and educate participants.
The conference will highlight carcase characteristics of northern beef breeds and identify career opportunities.
ICMJ Northern Conference coordinator Ethan Mooney, Teys Australia, said the event was created to cater of the northern beef industry and to attract skilled workers.
"With this in mind, we have opened up the Northern Conference to include not only university students but also the vocational training sector as well as young staff working in pastoral companies or agribusinesses," Mr Mooney said.
'The aim is to build a pool of intelligent young meat industry representatives through a balanced mix of industry presentations, hands-on workshops, field tutorials and a competition."
