It was four-year-old Lane Passmore who stole the limelight at the Toowoomba Royal Show when his steer Passmore Chicken Nugget was sashed grand champion led steer.
A total of 41 led steers were paraded before judge Damien McMahon, McMahon Meats, Killarney.
Mr McMahon, who was officiating at his first judging assignment, looked for exhibits that best fit the domestic market.
His choice for grand champion was the 10-month-old Limousin/Shorthorn-cross steer, Chicken Nugget.
"It was a combination of yield, softness and fat cover that made him the grand champion," Mr McMahon said.
Chicken Nugget was bred by Ben Passmore and Bec Skene, Benjarra Cattle Company, Clifton, and they gifted him to their son Lane.
Lane could not contain his delight and said the win was very exciting.
"I will be taking the ribbon to school on Monday for 'show and tell' in my prep class," Lane said.
Lane's father, Ben, said that as Chicken Nugget was so quiet they decided they would exhibit him.
"The plan is to take him through to the Ekka, if he doesn't get too heavy," Ben said.
Chicken Nugget was earlier the champion middle weight steer and hit the scales at 446 kilograms.
Reserve middle weight steer was Gunna, exhibited by Blake Dawson.
The champion heavy weight steer was a black Limousin steer named the Gambler exhibited by Travis Luscombe, Toowoomba. Gambler hit the scales at 652kg.
Reserve heavy weight steer was Bullseye, another black Limousin steer exhibited by Travis Luscombe.
"He is a steer with a lot of finish, has a very good carcase, and good depth in the ribs," Mr McMahon said.
Murray Nicholls, Tookawhile Charolais, Kyogle, NSW, exhibited Red, a red factor Charolais steer who weighted 416kg. Red was sashed champion light weight steer.
Reserve light weight steer was a Charolais steer named Snoop Dog exhibited by Lachlan Young, Esk.
In a separate judging of Square Meater steers it was the Ross family's exhibit Pedro who was placed first.
