A high-quality line-up of 63 bulls representing seven breeds will be offered at the Blackall Saleyards on Tuesday, March 19, during the Black Stump Bull Sale.
Six highly regarded vendors including Burenda Angus and Brangus, Clayfield Droughtmasters, Rodlyn Droughtmasters and Simbrahs, Starthgyle Brafords, Swan Hill Santa Gertrudis and Noanga Simmentals will be offering drafts. They’ve selected 23 Angus, four Brangus, six Braford, 12 Droughtmaster, 11 Santa Gertrudis, five Simmentals and three Simbrah bulls for the sale.
Sale agent, Mark Duthie, GDL Stud Stock, said although the sale has been put on hold over the years due to seasonal conditions, including last year, through consultation with the vendors the unified driving goal remains to supply bulls to the Central West.
“The Black Stump sale should be a regular annual event, therefore we’ve made the commitment to hold the sale each year no matter what mother nature throws at us,” he said.
He said though the sale draft is smaller than when it was last held in 2017, the committed repeat sale vendors are fixed on providing quality bulls, with desirable genetics at affordable prices to the doorstep of Central Western producers.
“Our focus since the inception of the sale is summed up in our sale motto ‘better bulls breed better beef’.
“Our vendors are committed in quality not quantity and to supply herd improving bulls.
“This offering will give buyers an opportunity to refresh there sire battery’s due to the ongoing seasonal conditions with out breaking the budget.”
Mr Duthie said all vendors are “doing it tough again season-wise again”, so bulls selected for the sale are being prepared lightly so that they’ll be fit and ready to go straight out for joinings.
At the 2017 sale 76 bulls sold to average $4803 for an 88 per cent clearance. Daryl and Judy Harland, Coolibah, Roma, paid the top overall money of $11,000 for Angus sire prospect Burenda Lethal, from the Schmidt family, Burenda Angus stud, Kaimkillenbun.
Mr Duthie thanked Burenda Angus for their commitment to supplying top quality Qld-bred Angus bulls which “make up the backbone of this sale, they’re a great even line once again for 2019”.
“I’d also like to mention Swan Hill Cattle Co who have been with us for every Black Stump sale, and the McNamara Family, Strathgyle Brafords who had a stellar 2018 in winning Grand Champion Braford Bull at Beef 2018 and for there record sale average at the Braford National Sale.”
