A good quality yarding of 2179 cattle at Sullivan Livestock’s first Gympie sale for 2019 saw the market firm to only slightly easier to 2018 rates. Cattle were drawn from Mt Perry, Gin Gin, Gayndah, Bundaberg, Tansey, Kilkivan, Woolooga, Kenilworth, Maleny, Woodford and all local areas.
Brangus steers from Marr and Trevan, Cedar Pocket, made 306c ($1454), Brangus steers from J, F & C Younger, Gayndah made 308c ($1419) and their high grade Brahman steers sold for 289c ($1280). Droughtmaster cross steers from Kevin Rule, Lower Wonga made 300c to return $1420. Droughtmaster cross steers from Elizabeth Pretorius made 293c ($1529 and $1445).
Droughtmaster cross steers from Ian and Donna Atthow sold for 302c, 301c and 303c. Charbray steers from Neil Hayward, Sexton, made 298c for $1172 and $1161. Droughtmaster steers from Rob Smith, Kin Kin, sold for 289c to return $1194. Droughtmaster steers, 14 months from Dave Hebberman, Yengarie sold for 301c ($900 and $916).
Quality weaner steers met spirited competition. Droughtmaster steers from Westonvale Livestock, Glastonbury sold for 308c ($809). Charbray steers from J & L Hall, Coondoo, made 323c ($798). Charbray steers from Cattleco, Conondale made 311c ($764). Droughtmaster steers from John Krafft, Gunalda, made 299c ($743). Droughtmster steers from Alan May, Mt Perry sold for 339c ($726), while his Brahman cross steers made 303 ($799 and $721). Droughtmaster steers from the Paulger family, Kenilworth, made 299c ($772). Generally weaner steers sold from 270c to 312c.
Droughtmaster heifers, running with bull, from Glen Ritchie, Kandanga, sold for $1250. Feeder heifers topped at 280c for Euro cross heifers from Chris and Debbie Crouch to return $1011. Charbray heifers from Neil Hayward, Sexton, sold for 270c ($1043). Droughtmaster heifers from J & M Pastoral, Miva, made 270c ($1047). Feeder heifers generally sold from 260c to 271c.
Limo cross heifers from Dick Irwin, Glenwood made 272c ($766). Charbray cross weaner heifers from Malcom Mahon, Langshaw, made 265c ($629). Charbray heifers from J &L Hall, Coondoo, made 271c to return $675. Brangus heifers from Oakcharm Pty Ltd, Tansey, made 253c ($527). Weaner heifers returning to the paddock sold from 230c to 271c. Good conditioned vealer heifers sold from 200c to 228c, while plainer types sold from 180c to 212c.
Limousin cows and calves from Roz Barron, Conondale, made $1470, $1425, $1400, $1175 and $1175. Brahman cows and calves from Luke Canty, Bella Creek, sold from $1200. The next run of cows and calves sold from $880 to $1060.
