A 62-year-old Western Australian man has survived a light plane crash in remote bushland, south west of Mundubbera.
The Bundaberg-based RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter was called to the Auburn State Forest just after 9:30 this morning, after the Jabiru the man was flying, reportedly suffered engine failure and crashed into dense forest.
The pilot was the sole occupant.
Authorities were able to easily locate the crash site, because of an activated E-PIRB.
When the rescue chopper arrived at the scene, RACQ LifeFlight Rescue's QAS paramedic was winched down to the pilot, who'd suffered minor injuries.
Following assessment, it was decided the patient could be taken to hospital by road, by a local Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) crew.
RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter pilot, Peter Marris, said the man was very lucky to have walked away alive.
"One of the plane's wings was completely torn off in the crash, it's amazing that he wasn't more badly injured," Mr Marris said.
