Sullivan Livestock yarded 1315 cattle for their last sale of 2018 where the market for heavy feeder cattle and quality weaners remained firm on recent sales.
Cattle were drawn from Gayndah, Gin Gin, Bundaberg, Aramara, Susan River, Kilkivan, Woolooga, Maleny, Kenilworth, Eumundi and all local areas.
Heavy feeder steers topped at 309c for Charbray steers from Neville and Lyndall Ensby, Bergins Pocket to return $1576 and $1536. Brangus steers from J and L Walker Bergins Pocket, made 307c ($1470). Droughtmaster steers from John and Vicki Warren, Cinnabar made 308c ($1369 and $1352), while their 4 tooth brothers made 295c ($1443).
Simmental cross steers from R and K Corkin, Maleny made 305c ($1371). Brangus cross steers from Russell and Trish McIntosh made 301c ($1282). Droughtmaster cross steers from Dave McNaught, Calico Creek made 285c ($1090). Droughtmaster weaner steers from Loam Creek made 311c ($789). Droughtmaster steers from the Pollock family made 327c ($796). Light Droughtmaster cross steers from Susan River made 341c ($710) and 331c ($542). Generally weaner steers sold from 270c to 310c.
Feeder heifers topped at 279c for Charbray heifers from the Smith family, Maleny to return $972. Charbray cross heifers from Gayndah made 276c and 274 ($893 and $806). Droughtmaster heifers from Ivy Carter, Belli Park made 299c to return $780. Quality Grey Brahman weaner heifers from Ron Kirk and family, Yenda, Gayndah, made 301c to return $667. Backgrounder weaner heifers made 228c to 272c. Good conditioned vealer heifers made 208c to 242c. Plainer lines of weaner heifers sold from 150c to 202c.
Cows and calves topped at $1150 but generally sold from $700 to $1050.
The first sale for 2019 will be on January 14.
