Cattle numbers fell this week with a total listing of 1506 head offered on AuctionsPlus, a fall of 1931 from last week. Despite the smaller listing, clearance was much higher than last week with 61 per cent clearance achieved. A line of weaned steers was purchased by a buyer from Glen Innes, NSW, with the remaining lots bought by Queensland producers.
Weaned steers weighing up to 300kg averaged 301c, selling from 287c to a top of 314c. Out of the 199 weaned steers on offer this week, 184 head sold. The top line was 80 Angus/Composite steers from Kingaroy selling for 314c/$805. These steers were offered from account Compagnoni Brothers, are 9 – 12 months old, weighing 256kg and were bought by a bidder from Cawdor.
Ten lots of cows and calves were offered, with five lots selling. Hayes Grazing Partnership offered 72 Santa Gertrudis cross cows and calves from Glenmorgan, which sold for $1430. These cows are EU accredited, weigh 481kg, are 3 – 8 years of age. The calves at foot are mixed sex, range from 1 – 16 weeks of age and averaged 155kg.
Glenapp Pastoral Co offered four lots of Ultra Black cross heifers and steers in the weaner and yearling sale from Rathdowney. The only line of steers sold for 315c/$1082. 92 head were offered, averaging 344kg and are 12 – 14 months of age. The three lines of heifers all made 300c, and all four lots were purchased by the same buyer from Morningside.
Sheep numbers also fell significantly this week, with 2710 head offered, a decrease of 4260. An 87pc clearance was achieved, with four out of five lots offered being successfully purchased. Interstate interest was again high, with three lots out of the five having bids from NSW, with two lots being successfully purchased by NSW buyers.
A Coonamble bidder bought 730 Merino ewes from Longreach for 297c/$120. These ewes are 17 – 26 months of age, weigh 40kg and have a ¾” skin. They were offered from account Enniskillen Past Co & Barcaldine Downs Past Co and will make a 1300 km journey south to Coonamble, NSW.
Another lot that was bought by an interstate buyer was 600 store weather Dorper lambs that were offered from account LA & AG Smith, Augathella, and purchased from a buyer from Tamworth for 336c/$99.50. These Dorpers are Jul/Aug drop, averaged 30kg and will travel 936km.
Romald Cattle Co, Hannaford, offered another line of Dorpers in the lamb sale, selling for 314c/$95.50 to a buyer from Meandarra. 380 mixed sex lambs were offered, which are Feb/Jul drop and averaged 30kg.
660 Merino ewes were offered by Elders Longreach, from account James King, Longreach, selling for 143c/$72. These ewes are 6 – 8 years of age, averaged 51kg, have a 1/2” skin and are Glendemar blood. They were bought by a Charleville bidder.
