There were 464 head sold at Stariha Auctions Woodford cattle sale on Monday. The market for cows and feeder cattle was very strong. Cows and calves also sold to dearer rates, while weaners remained firm. Plainer types were slightly easier.
Pumicestone Poultry, Mt Kilcoy, sold Droughtmaster cows for $1290 and Limousin cross calves, with steers and heifers both making $600. Lines of local Woodford steers, 20-24 months, sold for impressive results, with a pen of Droughtmaster cross steers selling for $1390 and a line of Charbray steers making $1400.
Quayle Cattle Company, Peachester, sold a line of Simmental cross steers, 12 months, for $1000. Richard Payne, Stanmore, sold Murray Grey cross steers for $1810. Ernest Clare, Beachmere, sold British White cows for $1200. Nigel Rickman, Ningi, sold a line of Angus steers, 14-15 months, for $1140. Adrian Crowe, Kilcoy, sold Brangus cows and calves for $1440 and cows for $1200.
Baker & Haseler Estates, Dayboro, sold Charolais cross cows and calves for $1400 and Droughtmaster cows for $1170. Tandarra Partners, Sandy Creek, sold Droughtmaster cows for $1160. Lionel Richards, Kilcoy, sold Droughtmaster bulls for $1900 and $1725.
Raymond Jenkinson, Kilcoy, sold Santa cows to $1330 and steer calves for $535-$670. Jack Kropp, Beerwah, sold a Droughtmaster steer for $1515. Jeffrey Webster, Kilcoy, sold Droughtmaster cross steers, 6-7 months, for $720. Barry Pratten, Mt Kilcoy, sold Brangus steers, 6 months, for $750.
