NSW studs were the dominant force in Friday’s Devon judging, with Grand Champion Bull awarded to Vix Lodestone L243; a three year old, 1248 kilogram bull from Vix Stock Breeding at Mullaley.

Named as heaviest on ground, the giant bull possessed impressive figures; with a daily gain amount of 1.18, P8/Rib Fat Depth of 22/15 and an eye muscle area of 140 squared centimetres.

Owner Victor Edwards said the bull came from a very consistent line.

“The bulls mother was Champion Female at Sydney in 2016. It is the heaviest bull on ground, as it’s brother was last year. The soundness of the animal and the ability to possess that frame with it is incredible.

“He has great length from hip to pin and a great balance.”

Ashwood Cara 12, a 24-month-old heifer from Malcolm Wood, Bulahdelah, was awarded Grand Champion Female.

Mr Wood said that Ashwood Cara 12, a daughter of Ashwood Cara 10 who won Supreme Exhibit at the Sydney Royal in 2016, came from a long line of winners.

“This line has continued to produce many great champions”

“She has tremendous depth and a fantastic top line. A well put together female and wide between the pins,” he said.

Judge Roger Evans, Tamworth, said the winners were great examples of their breed.

“It is really encouraging to see Devon cattle maintaining its structural integrity while increasing its yield.”

“The winning bull was particularly good, with a very strong EMA ratio. The winning heifer was a very functional, correct female with great amounts of potential,” he said.

Junior Champion Heifer was won by Vix Lily N93 from Vix Stock Breeding and was followed in reserve by Ashwood Genevieve 1 from Malcolm Wood.

In the junior bulls, Ashwood Neverfail from Malcolm Wood took out champion while Ashwood Noticeable MJWN25 took out reserve.

In senior female judging, Little Manning Miss Zena, from G.E and B.R Edwards came behind Ashwood Cara 12 to take out the reserve champion ribbon.

Reserve Senior Champion bull was won by Little Manning Abbro from owners G.E and B.R Edwards.

The event was sponsored by The Late Richard Arnold Howell Trust.
