Cattle numbers increased to 1617 head this week, up 894 head from last week. However, clearance rates steadied at 50 per cent. There was significant interest from northern NSW buyers, with stock travelling interstate to Casino, Dorrigo and Tenterfield.
Weaned steers weighing up to 300kg averaged 277c and sold to a top of 322c. Bonyi Trading Trust, Goondiwindi offered the top line, consisting of 84 Angus steers, weighing 275kgs aged 10-11 months old. From Glenmorgan, Butler Grazing Pty Ltd offered 78 Droughtmaster steers which returned 292c or $780. These steers are aged 6-10 months and weigh 266kgs.
Hector Tattam, Bungunya, offered 34 Shorthorn/Limousin weaned steers, weighing 350kgs which returned 293c or $1030. These steers are aged 9-11 months. Their sisters, weighing 316kgs were also offered and returned 270c or $855. Both the steers and heifers travelled 320kms to Tenterfield, NSW. Glenapp Pastoral Co, Rathdowney, offered a large line of yearling steers which returned 308c or $1102.64. The 120 Ultra Black/Angus Cross steers are aged 10-11 months and weigh 358kgs.
Weaned heifers weighing up to 300kgs were in shorter supply and only two lines were offered this week. Butler Grazing Pty Ltd offered 58 Droughtmaster heifers, aged 6-10 months old and weighing 260kgs, which returned the top price of 261c or $680. A large line of 220 Angus/Brahman cross heifers, offered by Raneri Pastoral Company Eromanga, returned 233c or $400. Weighing 172kgs, these heifers are aged 5-12 months.
DJ and CA Ryan, Warwick offered two lines of Angus PTIC cows. Weighing 406kgs and 3 years old, 24 cows returned $975, while 20, 4-year-old cows weighing 391 kgs returned $1010. Both lines were set to travel 394km to Dorrigo, NSW. From Blackhall, NA and JM Armstrong offered 52 Brangus cows and calves which returned $1320. Weighing 472kgs, these cows are aged 2-11 years and are continuously joined to Brangus bulls. The calves range in age from 1-32 weeks and weigh 150kgs on average. These cows and calves travelled 1096km to Casino, NSW.
Sheep numbers also increased this week, with 1932 head on offer, a rise of 1037 from last week’s numbers. Mirroring last week, a 100pc clearance was again achieved. The interest from NSW buyers flowed through to sheep as well, with stock travelling interstate to Narrabri, Tallimba and Moree.
Merino ewes averaged $130, selling to a top of $145. The top price was achieved by MF & FM Murphy, Talwood, for 612 SIL Merino ewes, weighing 49kgs and aged 4-6 years old. These ewes are in lamb to White Suffolk rams. Hindle Grazing, Thallon, offered 405 station mated ewes, aged 20-22 months and weighing 41kgs which returned $115.
Merino wether lambs averaged $86, selling to a top price of $102. From Quilpie, Trinidad Pastoral Co offered 420 woolgrower wether lambs which achieved the top price. These lambs are Dec ’17- Jan ’18 drop and weigh 35kgs. A line of 365 trade wether lambs, offered by Wyralla Grazing Co, Dirranbandi returned $70. Weighing 31kgs, these lambs are 7-9 months old. Wyralla Grazing also offered 139 mixed sex first cross lambs, which returned $84. These lambs are 7-9 months old and weigh 37kgs.
